Thankful!

Another Thanksgiving in the books...

We had a great day with friends and family...Grace enjoyed her first Thanksgiving, we gave let her try most of the dishes on the table, including some pie!!!  She was bouncing off the wall an hour past her bedtime.  I tried to capture the day via my camera - in the beginning of the day I was doing pretty well.  Then our guests arrived and I was distracted.

The house was cleaned up Thanskgiving night by 8pm - and when the the last dish was put away it officially marked the beginning of the Christmas season.  This time of year is magical - and I'm feeling the magic even more so this year with Grace around.  Although she is still young and won't have much recollection of this year - I will, and I want to make sure she gets to experience the magic of the holiday season.  We have plenty of Christmas festivities planned over the next couple of weeks and can't wait to share our experiences with you all.

Without further ado, Thanksgiving 2013....

Pre - T Day thoughts..

Our household is enjoying the calm before the storm.  Matt and I host Thanksgiving - so the days leading up to "T day" are relaxing because shit hits the fan that day.  Matt does all the cooking - I can't take any credit besides peeling some potatoes and cutting up the canned cranberry sauce.  However over the 4 years, Matt and I have created a nice dance so we don't get into each others way.  I create the ambiance,  he creates the delicious food.

We work together as a team everyday - making sure work schedules don't conflict so someone is around for Grace - or allowing each other free time.  I think we are good teammates, heck, that's how we were first introduced to each other - but it isn't until Thanksgiving Day every year that I am blown away of how well we work together.  Yes, there is some bickering that happens, but it wouldn't be a holiday without some.  I'm looking forward to another year being gathered around our dining room table with our friends and family.   It's not the hours of cooking, cleaning, preparing that is daunting -- it's the ten month old that we're going to have to dance around.

Wish us luck!

The Big Chill

I've had this "chill in my bone" for the past month.  I know I know - I'm originally form the Northeast and temperatures in the 40s and 50s should not warrant the start of the heater season.  But this weekends arctic blast is no joke.  Our weekend plans of running outside, watching a Christmas tree get lit up and playing at the park were squashed when the drizzle and cold temperatures started falling on Friday morning.  The best thing we could do was improvise and hibernate.

Our weekend:

a bowl of Pho

a playdate with Ainslie

a pumpkin spice latte
a session of the mexican train game
homemade waffles

a spotting of fall foilage
a morning of lifetime Christmas movies
an afternoon of football

several cuddle sesssions
countless naps

the first day my Napoleon Dynamite boots were appropriate (seasonally, not fashionably)
staying in pajamas until noon

hanging our Thanksgiving wreath on the front door

enjoying the three of us....

Not to be cliche but it's weekends like this one that warms my heart and wards off that chill in my bone.

Looking forward to a short week of work and celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday.
